ABOUT ME

Hello there!

I’m Miguel Camacho Cobas – a creative born and raised in the island of Cuba. I was precisely born in the beautiful city of Havana and since an early age I was trained in the traditional ways of illustration and design.

I wanted to draw characters and tell stories for people across the world to enjoy. I gained enrollment into the Florida International University’s first generation of designers where I honed my skills in ideation, art direction, photo design, advertising, package design, and web design.

I’m mostly known for the emphasis on diversity in my work. I am currently working on projects that involve illustration, advertising, branding, web design, photography, merchandise, even tattooing – you name it! I’m open to pretty much anything involving a creative process.

I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a minor in Art History. I have worked as a Designer for numerous advertising agencies in Miami.

The FIRST FACES COMPETITION

MIAFW’s First Faces is an online competition that reveals how a future Top Model is born. Models from different cultural and professional backgrounds participate in the pursuing of the opportunity to open the runway shows of some of the top designers around the world. Hundreds participate and are voted by users on Miami Fashion Week official website. A glimpse into the world of fashion through the eyes of the beautiful top models competing to make it to the opening of the runway shows.

I had the opportunity working with them not only to redesign their logo but also work in the development of projects like their Face Faces contest.

DIGITAL ILLUSTRATIONS

A series of digital illustrations I have made in the past regarding different concepts and for various purposes.

MIKO THE ROBOT

The story behind the first sketches, concept art and story-telling that brought to life the main character of this story, Miko The Robot.

I started this project back in my illustration class at FIU. The image in the left portraits the first of sketches on a project that consisted on creating imaginary characters for what was going to be a short story later on. The next step was to take it from the sketchbook to digital and this way implementing the idea of concept art.

The Story

With a full version of the character at hand, this meaning a side, back and front view of the subject, we were ready to jump to the next step and that was the short-story. The instructions were not that complicated. It consisted of a couple of frames depicting some sort of story, dialogue between Miko and anything in the environment. This is what happened and you will see the transition from sketchbook to digital.

Alternative artwork

Later on after I posted the project on social media it got quite the feedback. I started branding Miko and making different designs and alternative looks like you can see in picture number two. With the death of one of my idols, Kobe Bryant, I made a commemorative Miko in honor of his legacy which you can appreciate as the last of this series.

Self-Portraits

When learning a new style or technique, I always start depicting myself following the learned process. Some of them I have printed out and presented them l like you can see in the first image. These are some of the self portraits images I have done in the past.

Family portraits

The same thing I do with my image when learning a new technique, I love to do it with family members and friends. These are some of the artworks I have done in the past depicting those subjects.

Other

These are a series of miscellaneous artworks I am constantly working on and posting on social media.
